As the players met pre-game in the North end zone with Coach Guillen, they thought they had two games left in their season. Just before kickoff word broke that Mountain House had officially cancelled for next Thursday making this game the last for the Frosh/Soph in the 2022 season.
The Bulldogs were unable to break many big plays against the disciplined Lodi defense and the Flames kept bringing the heat offensively and took the lead in the 2nd half to serve Tracy a loss. Brian Lindt would score both Tracy touchdowns from 2 and 44 yards out.
Q1 - The Lodi opening drive was promising but at 6:57 in the quarter, they fumble giving the Dogs the ball at the Tracy 39.
There would be no scoring in the quarter.
Q2 - 6:40 mark, Lodi aired the ball out for a 65 yard score. The kick was no good. Lodi 6 - Tracy 0
Late in the first half Tracy worked their way down the field culminating in a Brian Lindt score from 2 yards out. The kick by Matthew Lavelle was good to make it Lodi 6 - Tracy 7
HALFTIME Lodi 6 - Tracy 7

Malachi Bartholomew is finding holes in the Lodi defense gaining yardage for the Dogs as time ticks down in the quarter.

Q4 - Tracy fumbles at the Lodi 14 early in the 4th quarter
6:59 left, the Flames connect on a 48 yard touchdown pass. The 2 point reception is good. Lodi 20 - Tracy 14
With time ticking through the 6 minute mark of the game, Tracy is unable to do much with their next possession having to punt at their own 31.
Starting at midfield, Lodi burns a lot of time off the clock as they march into the red zone. The Tracy defense is able to make a final stand with 36 seconds left at their own 4 yard line to get a turn over on downs.
Tracy generates some positive yardage but there is not enough time left as the clock and the season expires.
The Frosh/Soph finished 5-3 on the season.
On one of the most perfect weather nights of the season, the Frosh/Soph were solid all the way around and able to blank Tokay in league play.

In the most competitive game of the year for the Frosh/Soph, Downey came back from a 14-0 deficit to give Tracy their toughest test yet this year. After losing the lead in the 2nd half, Tracy would come back late in the 4th quarter to take the lead on three scores by Brian Lindt. The defense held off a last ditch onslaught by the Knights with good play in the secondary to disrupt several pass plays deep in Tracy territory. Hats off to our fans who came to life with 3 minutes left in the game and really made a difference in elevating the play on the field.
Q1 - Tracy started strong on their opening drive getting the ball down to the Downey 5 yard line, but the Knights defense plays solid red zone defense and stalls the drive. With Tracy defense looking very solid in early play and holding Downey at their own 2 yard line, the punt gives Tracy good starting field position at the Downey 35. A few plays later Brian Lindt scores from two yards out. The kick is wide left keeping it at 6-0 with just over a minute left in the first quarter.
The Tracy defense does not allow the Knights to get past their own 35 on the next possession and the quarter comes to a close.
Q2 7:57 - Tracy starts the 2nd quarter with some solid running by Victor Lozano and he is rewarded later in the drive with a 7 yard carry up the middle. With the Tracy offensive line spread way out, Victor Lozano scores up the middle from 6 yards out. He gets the ball again on a 2 point conversion to make it 14-0.
4:36 The Tracy defense begins to really put the clamps on Downey and it looks like the Knights are beginning to fade, but then they find some openings in the Tracy defense and score to pull within 7 at 14-7.
Late in the half Tracy is marching down the field to the four yeard line and preparing to score. A pass towards the middle of the end zone is picked off by the safety and the half ends with the Downey possession.
HALFTIME: DOWNEY 7 - TRACY 14
Q3 - Downey seizes the momentum early in the 2nd half on a 57 yard run from scrimmage to tie the game at 14.
2:37 - Downey stays focused on the run and strings together a long drive to score again and take the lead 21-14 at the end of the 3rd quarter
Q4 8:20 - Lindt scores from 7 yards out and the 2 point conversion is good even though Tracy fumbles the ball at the goal line. The Bulldogs take the lead 22-21.
8:02 - On the first play from the Downey 37 yard line, the Knights gets the Tracy defense to bite on play action and a lone receiver slips through the Tracy secondary and is left all alone for a 63 yard touchdown to go ahead 27--22. The 2 point pass attempt is broken up. Downey 27 - Tracy 22
4:37 - Lindt scores again from 3 yards out on a keeper to take the lead 28-27. The 2 point conversion by Lindt is unsuccessful.
With 3:30 left in the game, the intensity of the game cranks up, the crowd comes alive waking up the East side of the town and the players respond. At midfield Tracy strips the ball from a Downey receiver putting the dogs in an excellent position to win the game starting at their own 48. A 33 yard run up the middle by Malachi Bartholomew sets up Lindt to score from 19 yards out on a run he breaks out to the left to put the Dogs up 34-27. The 2 point conversion is pushed way back due to taunting and Tracy is unable to expand the lead.
With the game on the line, Downey begins their all out passing attack and the Bulldog secondary responds with great defense, however the Knights are eventually able to move the ball well into Tracy territory at the 25 yard line with 20+ seconds left. With Downey facing 4th and 10 and only 18 seconds left, the ball is snapped high and the quarterback can only fall on the ball sealing the win for the Bulldogs.
With a great 4-0 start, the Bulldogs got a taste of what league play will be like with many of their TCAL opponents. Action starts in two weeks on Thursday September 29 at Lincoln High.
A more detailed game summary will come after review of the game film.

Tracy Bulldogs 14 | 21 | 0 | 14 | 49
The Tracy High Football Program remained undefeated as the Frosh Soph got their first home game and did not let the hometown fans down on a very warm Thursday night. Fortunately there was a lot of shade when the 7 p.m. kickoff occurred but the Tracy offense and defense stayed hot all night as they limited what Pacheco could execute on the field.
The coaches were very pleased with the accomplishment of many goals on offense, defense, and special teams, but they emphasized to the team that things will get significantly tougher next week at Downey.

1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | Final
Tracy Bulldogs 12 | 0 | 23 | 0 | 35
Lathrop Spartans 0 | 8 | 0 | 0 | 8
Coach Guillen was upset (to put it mildly) at halftime after he watched his team generate only 12 first half points and let a Lathrop team feel like they had all the momentum. He challenged his team to shutout their opponents in the 2nd half. At the time it appeared to be a tall task, but as the 3rd quarter got started, the offense went on a roll and the defense played lights out to generate a jubilant 35-8 victory and get that 2nd half shutout. Hundreds of photos coming
The first quarter got started with Brian Lindt keeping the ball for a very long 50 yard (estimated) touchdown run but the extra point was no good. Lindt would score again on a similar play later int eh first quarter to make it 12-0 and there would be no further scoring in the quarter.
Q2 - Lathrop had a rushing touchdown early in the 2nd quarter to close to within 12-6. A 2point conversion was good and the momentum seemed to be shifting.
With 3:30 left in the 2nd quarter, Tracy was marching to the 33 yard line of Lathrop when they fumbled to kill a drive.
With 22 seconds left and Lathrop edging towards the end zone, Tracy came up with a key interception by Emilio Chavez to stall the scoring drive and put Tracy into halftime with a fragile 12-8 lead.
At halftime, Coach Guillen was upset that his team seemed flat and had let Lathrop limit the offensive firepower of his team. He challenged his team to pitch a shutout in the 2nd half and turn on the gas offensively. The players would respond quickly.
Q3 - Lindt had his 3rd touchdown on the day with a 13 yard run at the 7:10 mark of the quarter to make it 18-8. Malachi Bartholomew scored the 2 point conversion on the run to make it 20-8.

Q4 - No further scoring.
Tracy 49 - Kimball 18
Hundreds of photos will upload late into Thursday night here.
It was all smiles in the postgame huddle for Tracy at midfield on Thursday night after the Bulldog Frosh/Soph team showed they carry a load of talent on their squad this year. Coach Nelson Guillen was very pleased with the physicality of his team. "Our defense was great today. They kept up with a very mobile Kimball quarterback which put a lot of stress on our defense. Our safeties and corners had to really stay with the receivers for 5-6 seconds and I was very impressed with that."
Quarterback Brian Lindt played very well in his first start. Guillen was looking for him to step up in a leadership role and Guillen saw elements of that tonight in the win.
