The defense played pretty well in this game but the offense had too many miscues allowing St. Mary's to maintain the lead from start to finish.  Tracy would have 5 fumbles in the game (losing 2 of them) and five penalties.   Tracy would get their only score with 5:20 left in the 4th quarter when Aidan VanOs found Jeremey Haynes Jr for 8 yards.  An extra point turned into a 2 point conversion by Elijah Gutierrez.

          JV VS LINCOLN

JV GET SPIRITED WIN HOLDING OFF LINCOLN 21-20

            Stats JV

At times the Tracy offense and defense looked stellar, but there were also several frustrating displays of fumbles (3 turnovers) and blown coverages.  Ultimately, the Dogs fought hard to hold off a strong Lincoln team and claim an important league win.

A key factor in this game was time of possession as Tracy kept the ball away from Lincoln by the lopsided ratio of 34  minutes to 13.  Tracy also limited the Trojans to just one first down in the game, but Lincoln got two of their scores in the span of just a few seconds as time was expiring in the first half.  Lincoln took the lead briefly in the 3rd quarter 20-14.

Tracy scoring was accomplished by a heavy dose of Tommy Hayes on the ground with 88 yards on 13 carries and two TDs.  Aidan Van Os connected late in the 3rd quarter to #5 (pictured above) Tyson Roberts for an 11 yard pass over the middle in the end zone to give Tracy the lead that they would not relinquish in the final two minutes with strong defense.

Aidan Van Os led the Bulldogs with 109 yards rushing.

The Tracy leading tackler was Jake Navas with 3 solo.

Unofficial game summary.  Our statistician (Tom Jaekel) will review the tape and provide his report this weekend.

In the first of two hard fought battles at the Grape Bowl, Lodi scored quickly on the opening kickoff with an 80 yard return to go up 7-0.   Tracy responded with a 17 yard touchdown pass to Rocco Mendicino at the 6:51 mark of the first quarter to tie the game on the extra point.

At 4:25 of the first quarter a 55 yard kick return by Nathan Costa is called back only to be followed by a 75 yard return by Jeremy Haynes Jr. that was also called back due to a block in the back.   Tracy continued to put the pressure on Lodi and then got a big gain from Daniel Chavez to move the ball to the Lodi 19.  Tommy Hayes bullied his way into the end zone from 11 yards out with 1:56 left in the first quarter to give Tracy a 14-7 lead with the extra point.

          Q2

Lodi took a 15-14 lead on their first drive of the 2nd quarter.  The 2 point conversion gave them their second lead of the game at 15-14.  Tracy would regain the lead for good at the 2:19 mark of the 2nd quarter with a 15 yard run by Tommy Hayes.   The extra point was blocked making it 20-15.

The Tracy defense was tested just before the half but held at midfield.   Halftime Tracy 20 - Lodi 15.

          Q3

Aiden Van Os orchestrates a long drive to start the 3rd and burn much of the clock, but a Tracy fumble inside the Lodi 5 yard line spells disappointment for Tracy.

          Q3 and Q4

Lodi then assembled a long drive of their own but with a 4th and two at the Tracy 30, the Bulldog defense comes up big with a key stop to thwart Lodi with 4 minutes left.   From there, Tracy holds onto the ball to run out the clock and gain another exciting victory.

The Bulldogs trailed in this one 6-0 at halftime, but the corrections were made and Tracy came out and executed an onside kick perfectly and the offense and defense that were missing in the first half came to life hold off a feisty Tokay squad looking to stay a top the TCAL.

Tracy would get on the board and tie the game at the 7 minute mark of the 3rd when Daniel Chavez ran for 8 yards.  The score was setup by a nice long run by Van Os and the onside kick to start the 2nd half.  Later in the 3rd, Tracy generated a safety (Wesley Finton on the tackle) and Tracy got the lead at 8-6.  In the 4th, Tommy Hayes ran for 8 yards and a razzle dazzle two pitch and pass to Van Os two-point conversion gave Tracy their 16-6 lead to carry them the rest of the way.

The Bulldog defense held Tokay to only 58 yards and 4 first downs on the evening.

The win puts Tracy (now 7-2) in a 3 way tie at 1st place in the TCAL with one game to play.
