St. Mary's may have picked up their 26th win in a row against the Bulldogs on Friday night, but make no mistake this game was close to ending that streak.
After a scoreless first quarter, St Mary's jumped out to a 7-0 lead with 7:57 left in the 2nd quarter. Tracy came back to tie the game with 47 seconds left on a 48 yard touchdown strike from Brown to Severson (photo of catch is above). Unfortunately St. Mary's got one more quick score with time winding down in the first half. In a wild ending to the half, Severson took the kickoff and burst through the coverage and was headed towards a score, but a Rams defender tracked him down and punched the ball out as he got deep in SM territory.
With the score 14-7 coming out of the half, the two defenses battled the remainder of the game.
Tracy had a couple of chances including the final drive of the game that got down to the Rams 35, but the Dogs came up short of pulling even.
"I could not be prouder of the boys tonight and especially our seniors," said Coach Oh. "We had to work through some adversity this week at practice but we came out of it intact and ready to compete tonight."
"St. Mary's is a great team as always but we were in the drivers seat most of the night and on the verge of controlling this game. Some penalties bit us hard and a few things just did not go our way."
Tracy now prepares to wrap up the regular season at 0-9 Kimball next week. After that game, there may still be a chance for one more game in the newly formed CIF-SJS Bowl Games which would be played November 13th.

Tracy wasted little time establishing control of the game as Alex Montenegro took the 2nd play from scrimmage 63 yards for a touchdown. Edwards would start his busy night of kicking by adding the extra point (7-0).
Tracy's defense continued the momentum when Sebastian Lomeli intercepted a Rams pass near midfield. Tracy could not capitalize on the turnover as the first of several offensive mishandles occurred giving the ball back.
Special teams got in on the action with 4:17 left in the first quarter. The Rams punted deep in their own territory but the ball bounced off a Ram lineman and then Lomeli recovered in the end zone for 6 points.
The Tracy defense played a strong 2nd quarter and with 2:56 left in the half, Matthew Bush intercepted a pass giving Tracy good field position. Another Tracy fumbled kept the game at 14-0 entering halftime.
In the 3rd quarter, Tracy put the game out of reach as Logan Taylor broke loose on the first possession for a 31 yard touchdown run. The point after by Edwards made it 21-0.
Tracy's final score came when Lawrenz Shadrick-Brice scored on a 40 yard touchdown run with 47 seconds left in the quarter.
The Rams would score late in the game to break up the shutout.
Tracy is now 9-0 and will close out their fantastic season next week at Kimball.
