The final score does not reflect how this game played out. It was a low scoring tough fought game with each team struggling to get their high powered offenses in a groove. The defenses on each team frustrated the offense and Tracy held a slim 7-3 lead through three quarters with the only Bulldog touchdown being a beautiful connection between Cameron Ross and Kurtis Maynor for a 85 yard touchdown in the 2nd quarter.
With no scoring in the third quarter and Tracy holing a fragile 7-3 lead, Downey won the game in the 4th quarter as they began to find holes in the Tracy defense with their running game. Contributing to Downey pulling ahead in the 4th were Tracy turnovers and the inability of the offense to convert on several key 4th and ones.
Unofficial Game Summary
Q1 - On a warmer than expected evening, the varsity game started late (7:45 p.m.) due to delays in getting the JV started on time. The Tracy defense was on the field first and impressed the crowd with their stop of the Knights. Cameron Ross attempted to connect with Kurtis Maynor in the first offensive series but it was just off his finger tips in what would have been a magnificent catch. Tracy went 3 and out.
The Dogs defense held the pass happy Knights again allowing the Tracy offense to start their 2nd drive. With 1 minute left in the quarter, Cameron Ross is picked off and the Knights have the ball on their own 39. A sure Downey touchdown on a trick double pass is dropped giving Tracy some luck early on. The defense closes out the quarter forcing another Downey punt.
0-0 after first quarter
Q2 Tracy receives the punt to start the 2nd quarter and fumbles at the Tracy 32. Downey puts together a long drive but has to settle for a field goal to get the first points of the game 3-0.
7:05 Ross finds Maynor on a 85 yard touchdown pass. The extra point by Shemmy is good. Tracy 7 - Downey 3.
The Tracy defense holds again and starts their next offensive drive around the 5 minute mark of the quarter at their own 20 but cannot generate a substantive drive.
With the half approaching, Downey puts together a solid drive and is about to score, but the Tracy defense holds again at their 35 yard line. The half ends with both teams frustrated that their respective offenses have not produced enough.
HALFTIME Tracy 7 - Downey 3
Q3 - At 9 p.m. the 2nd half begins. Andres Gamboa Jr, intercepts a Downey pass and Tracy starts from their own 10 yard line after a penalty is enforced. Ross connects with David Garcia to get the Bulldogs to the Downey 48 and then he connects again with Isaac Salinas to get the ball to the 17
With 4:11 left in the quarter disaster strikes the Bulldogs when on 2nd and goal, Ross is picked off at the goal line as he was attempting to drop the pass into Salinas for the score. The Tracy defense once again prevents the Knights from capitalizing off the turnover. The quarter ends with no scoring.
Q4
Tracy is unable to convert on a 4th and 1 at the Downey 43. 10:15 mark, Downey converts on the next series with a 30 yard touchdown pass to take a 10-7 lead.
Another Tracy 4th and 1 cannot be executed with 9:07 left in the game at the Tracy 38 yard line.
Downey really begins to lean on their ground game at this point and is finding running lanes. At the 4:59 mark, Downey punches it in from 4 yards out to pull further ahead 17-7.
To make matters worse, Tracy must start their next drive at their own 1 yard line after the kickoff settles there. Tracy would then fumble on their 6 yard line. Downey immediately scores to make it 24-7 with 4 minutes left.
A Tracy pass at the 3:22 mark is caught but then bobbled and intercepted by Downey at the Tracy 32. The defense holds forcing a long field goal which is missed.
Ultimately Tracy gets one more score on the board with a carry by Ross to pick up 29 yards which then sets up his 24 yard touchdown run. The extra point is no good. Tracy 13 - Downey 24 - FINAL

The Tracy defense continued to be stout with another impressive stop at their own 5 yard line early in the 4th quarter.
September 9, 2022
Tommy Hayes had a night to remember as he found the end zone four times in the Friday win over Pacheco High. He also rushed for 118 yards as he has become a key figure in the offense with Mason Meyers sidelined. Cameron Ross also found Isaac Salinas for two touchdown passes. The Bulldogs found themselves in a lower gear for the first half but the coaching staff motivated the team to find a higher gear in the 2nd half as the offense then slapped 27 points on the board. The defense played well all night as they have for most of the season with Darian Marieiro leading the team with nine tackles.
A very tough test awaits the Bulldogs next Friday when they travel to Downey High who are one of the top teams in the Modesto region. "It will be a good test for us to see where we are at just before entering league play," said Offensive Coordinator Justin Evans.

Tracy Bulldogs 6| 19| 6| 7| 38
Tracy had very little information on Bishop O'Dowd prior to their arrival on Friday night, but it did not take long for the Bulldogs to size up their opponent and deliver a commanding blow and be fully in charge of the game by halftime. Coach Pribble was proud of the team performance on Friday night and how the starters continued to put the pressure on the Dragons early in the 2nd half which allowed playing opportunities for the rest of the team as the game evolved.
For the Bulldogs they are off to a good start at all three levels as the program remains undefeated in the early season. For the varsity this is a nice contrast to 2021 when they were already 0-2.

2) Congratulations to Cameron Ross who was named Player of the Week and invited to The Station restaurant on Tuesday for their first ever Player of the Week event. He joined other nominees from the local High Schools. "This is a great community building event," said Pribble. The coach also mentioned the qualities that led to Cameron getting nominated. "He displayed a tough and gritty performance which led to a contribution of four touchdowns. He led our team versus a very respectable Kimball squad," said Pribble.
3) I have revamped the Tracy High Sports Instagram account that I let go flat during COVID. Please check it out and follow for info about all THS sports. Thanks and enjoy.
The Bulldog fans showed up with wild enthusiasm and the players, coaches, cheer, and dance teams fed off of it. It was a great start to the season and hopefully your support rolls over to the home opener on Friday at Wayne Schneider Stadium. The Freshman will be on the road in Lathrop this Thursday for Game 2 of their season.
I had about 1,600 photographs worthy of being uploaded from the Friday night action and they are now in.my main photo gallery.

You could sense from the kickoff at 7:23 p.m. that this game was not going to be a sleeper, however the constant yellow laundry on the field kept the pace of what would be an exciting game at a slow crawl. Both Kimball and Tracy settled in to a knock down drag out heavyweight fight that had Tracy old timers on the sideline saying it was truly an amazing game. It was an instant classic! It had great plays, drama, and packed stands full of school spirit. There were numerous injury timeouts throughout the later stages of the game as players on both sides cramped up in this early season marathon. With players on both sides leaving everything on the field, the Dogs outlasted the Jaguars 34-32.
