VARSITY 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | FINAL
TD Knights 7 | 6 | 0 | 14 | 27
Tracy Bulldogs 3 | 7 | 0 | 0 | 10
Tracy once again was unable to advance to the 2nd round of the playoffs suffering a home first round loss. This year it did not come on a heart crushing last second play, but rather an accumulation of just too many self inflicted wounds preventing the offense from finding the end zone. The only Bulldog scoring was a defensively generated fumble and score in the first half by David Goularte (fumble generated by a combined tackle of Ronin Contreras and JJ Haynes/ photo here) and a Shemmy field goal.
Trailing by only three points in the 3rd, Tracy took a big blow when quarterback Aidan Van Os would get sidelined with an injury. The defense played well keeping Tracy in this game until the Knights pulled away in the 4th quarter.
"We had a lot of penalties and mental mistakes early" said Coach Pribble. The offense was in numerous long yardage situations in the first half keeping the Dogs out of their rhythm.
"We were right in this game throughout much of it. We felt very good leaving the locker room heading into the 3rd quarter and even at the start of the 4th we were easily within striking distance," said Pribble.
"I was sad for Aidan that he had to have his playoff game end the way that it did," said Pribble. The Senior QB was having a good night on the ground covering 76 yards up until his injury. "I thought Sophomore Juan Godoy who replaced Aidan was well prepared to enter the game and that impressed me." In the end the offense collected 275 yards but never could navigate into the end zone.
Defensive standouts included Seniors Maxwell Laird and Jonathan Patino who each had 7 tackles and Lattier who had the fumble recovery on his sack.
"Tonight we say goodbye to 29 seniors. They have left a legacy and something to build on. My heart is full of pride as I look at these players and this program," said Pribble as he wrapped us his 3rd year of coaching.
Game Summary
Tracy got behind early in this game as they went into punt formation and gave Downey good starting field position at the Tracy 33 when Elijah Gutierrez rolled out and threw an incomplete pass (see photo) Downey would make Tracy pay on their 3rd play from scrimmage with a 20 yard touchdown pass to go up 7-0 very early in the game.
After almost taking a safety, Van Os was able to gain a key first down and then Gutierrez had a nice long run. Eventually the Dogs get into the red zone but are unable to punch it in. A Shemmy field goal makes it 7-3 with 4:06 left in the quarter.
With 2:53 left in the next series at midfield, Samear Lattier has a clear path to the QB and hits him hard generating a fumble which Lattier reaches his hand out to secure it (see photo).
With time winding down in the first quarter, runs by Tommy Hayes and Gutierrez gets Tracy into the red zone. 7-3 end of Q1.
Q2 - Tracy on 4th and 1 near the goal line fumbles and Downey advance the ball to their 19 yard line. Tracy defense holds and forces a punt which gives the Dogs the ball at their own 41.
The first Tracy play on the next series is intercepted at the Bulldog 45 by Downey. The defense comes up big again preventing any Downey damage from the turnover.
5:53 - At the Tracy 19 yard line, a Van Os pass is intercepted. The defense halts the Knights and forces a field goal to make it 10-3 with 5:09 left in the half.
The Bulldogs are forced to punt on their next series late in the 2nd quarter and the Gutierrez 37 yarder is downed at the one. On the first play form scirmmage, Ronin Contreras stops the progress of a rusher at the one and JJ Haynes comes in with a hit on the ball to pop a fumble. David Goularte scoops it (photo) and scores to give Tracy much needed momentum with 3:12 left. The game is tied at 10-10.
As the clock winds down, Downey is able to move down the field and kick a short field goal with time expiring to lead 13-10.
HALFTIME: DOWNEY 13 - TRACY 10
Q3 - Once again the Tracy defense holds on the first series of the 2nd half. More offensive penalties doom the Tracy offense causing a punt. Tracy defense then generates another stop handing the ball back to the offense.
Facing 3rd and very long, Gutierrez has an inspirational run to gain a first down and move the ball to near midfield (photo). With 4:08 left, Van Os is hit hard and comes out of the game. Sophomore Juan Godoy takes over as QB as the score remains Downey 13 - Tracy 10 through three quarters.
Q4 - The quarter starts with a 31 yard field goal attempt by Shemmy to tie the game but it is blocked and Downey takes over. Downey has a quick and successful drive down the field and scores with 8:45 left. 20-10.
With 7:45 left, the Bulldogs get a golden opportunity to get back in the game by taking possession of a fumble deep in their territory. The Bulldog offense gives it back to Downey with their own turnover.
With 5:39 left, Downey scores again to seal the game at 27-10.

VARSITY 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | FINAL
West Wolf Pack 0 | 7 | 0 | 0 | 7
Tracy Bulldogs 7 | 17 |17 | 8 | 49
The Bulldogs started a little slow in this game but eventually found the right gear to complete their regular season on a high note and guarantee a new season starting next Friday. The brackets will be released later this weekend. While Tracy finished 8-2, a clerical error on paperwork caused the Bulldogs to forfeit their first 4 games on their Max Preps official record. "There is nothing we did wrong on the field of play, but as a program we will take the hit and move on," said Coach Pribble.
"West High came with a good game plan and poked some holes on what I wanted to do early on" said Coach Pribble. "I'm proud of my players on how they made adjustments during halftime and the results were very evident. It was great to see all the players get in the game tonight. We have earned our right to play at least one more game. We have accomplished Goal #1 which was to make the playoffs. Goal #2 is to advance," said a proud Coach Pribble as the team wrapped up a successful regular season.
West got the ball to start the game and assembled a couple of first downs as they chewed several minutes off the clock but JJ Haynes recovered a fumble resulting from a tackle by Lucky Tupouata (see photo here) with 7:30 left in the quarter at the Tracy 37. The Tracy offense then went to the air quickly and a Aidan Van Os pass intended for Rocco Mendicino was intercepted at the West 30 and brought up to the 48 with 6:23 left in the quarter. The Bulldog defense would hold on this series.
The Dogs got on the board with 2:08 left in the quarter as David Goularte acquired his first tochdown of the night on a 55 yard touchdown run (see photo here). The Shemmy kick was good 7-0.
West would fumble on their own 35 with 1:14 left.
Q2 - Shemmy kicked a 23 yard field goal with 8:51 left in the half to go up 10-0.
5:37 - Van Os found Goularte along the Tracy sidelines for a 43 yard touchdown pass. 17-0.
With 3:14 left, the Wolf Pack got their sole touchdown of the evening on a 15 yard run. 17-7.
With 28 seconds left before the half, Van Os dropped back to pass, bought more time with a roll to his right, and found Daniel Chavez at the 10 yard line. Chavez would dodge a couple of West defenders as he ultimately found the end zone to go up 24-7 entering the half (see photo here).
24 -7 HALFTIME
Elijah Guitierrez took the kickoff to the house to start the 2nd half but a penalty nullified the Bulldog celebration. The Dogs did found the end zone a bit later on the drive as Jake Navas scored from about 2 yards out. 31-7. 7:44 left in the quarter.
4:09 - Jeremy Haynes had a 55 yard run to make it 38-7 after the Shemmy extra point.
With 15 seconds left in the quarter, Shemmy executed a 33 yard field goal to increase the lead to 41-7.
Q4 - Antonio Espinoza blocked a punt and Tracy took over on the Wolf Pack 22. Maxwell Laird then immediately scored on a quarterback keeper. Shemmy found the end zone with a rushing 2 point conversion to finish the score at 49-7.
